You may have already seen the incredibly moving video of Sung-bong Choi, the Korean homeless boy with a God given voice of gold. If you haven’t allow us to catch you up.

Sung-bong Choi is a 22 year old manual laborer from South Korea, who was abandoned at an orphanage at the age of 3. After two years, at the age of 5, he ran away because he was being beaten. He spent the next ten years living on the streets, sleeping under bridges and in public rest rooms making a “living” by selling gum and other small items. He was able to scrape together just enough money to attend a performance arts school and barely had enough money to graduate.

At the age of 22 he decided to audition for the reality show Korea’s Got Talent, where he told his heartbreaking story. He apologized for not being a very good singer before delivering his version of “Nella Fantasia” and moving the audience, and the world, to tears.

Sung-bong Choi is a reminder to all of us that even though life is hard, and at times throws hardships our way that seem unbearable, God can turn it all around in an instant. It reminds us of the verse in Genesis 50:20 “You tried to harm me, but God made it turn out for the best, so that he could save all these people, as he is now doing.”

Judges from the show hugged him, offered him advanced vocal lessons, and unanimously sent him on through to the next round.

We hope that Sung-bong’s story of God’s grace and mercy will move you to tears the way it did us.
